Flagga
In
late 2019 the Global Military Police (GMP) decided that they needed a unit which
was highly mobile, operate in the urban environment, and could be used by both
the GMP's elite special forces as well as their law enforcement units. The
original design for the Hargun light veritech cycle met all the operational
requirements. However, by 2021 as the first production models were delivered
with limited transformation capability,
see Hargun entry for further details,
it became apparent to the GMP that they needed a complimentary vehicle which
possessed the mobility which the Hargun lacked while sacrificing some of the
armor and weaponry. Several designs were considered, including an attack
helicopter and VTOL fighter jet; however an armored single person hovercraft was
finally accepted.
The first Flagga was produced for the GMP
in March of 2022 with the first company forming later that same month. The
Flagga hoverplatform mounts a single Rolls-Royce Turbo fan engine with two
directional ports. The engine has a maximum output of over 90 kN, 20,200 lbf,
of thrust which gives the Flagga incredible maneuverability and the capability
to propel the unit up to 180 kph. The Flagga is armored with an advanced
titanium composite material which provides excellent protection against small
arms fire; however, anti-mecha weaponry (those with calibers greater than 20mm)
can easily destroy the unit.
The Flagga's only weapon is an internally
mounted GAU-18 25mm tri-barrel cannon. The weapon fires armor piercing depleted
uranium shells at 300 rounds per minute out to an effective range of 1.5 km.
Targeting of the weapon is aided through the use of a Huges-1700 combat computer
which displays flight and targeting data directly on the hovercraft's HUD.
Although, the Flagga is lightly armed, it does possess the full suite of sensor
equipment including an X-band targeting computer, infrared, and night vision.
All of the sensors are tied into the combat computer and sensor results are
displaced through the HUD.
A total of 1745 AHP-3 Flagga
hoverplatforms were built for the GMP from 2021 until the start of the Second
Robotech War in 2029 at which point all of the production facilities were
switched to heavier mecha units. The Flagga was a successful design for the
purposes for which it was built, law enforcement and patrol. At the start of
the Second Robotech War, the Flagga was thrown into combat protecting cities
against oncoming attacks from Bioroids. In this capability the Flagga proved to
be inadequate as large numbers were easily destroyed while on averaging only 1
bioroid kill for every 17 units. After two months critical attrition there
remained only 453 units. There remaining units were placed into reserve as
newer more heavily armored battloid designs took over civil defense duties. A
number of Flaggas are known to have survived through the Invid invasion and are
highly prized by resistance groups for their lack of protoculture use; although,
finding adequate fuel supplies is often problematic.
Hargun Delivery Vehicle
Although
the Flagga was designed as complimentary vehicle to the Hargun, the GMP still
wished that the Hargun possessed the transformation and mobility originally
advertised. Towards this end, a modified version of the Flagga was developed to
transport the Hargun into combat more quickly. The new unit was designated the
HDV-1 "Hargun Delivery Vehicle" with delivery of new units beginning in July of
2022
In most respects, the Hargun Delivery
Vehicle is identical to the Flagga as the two platforms share identical armor,
weapons, and propulsion systems; however, engineers modified the Flagga in four
primary areas to allow the vehicle to transport a Hargun. First, the main
fuselage was lengthened. This allows the HDV to carry a Hargun underneath as
well as carry an additional 400 liters of fuel to maintain the combat radius
with the heavier load. A vertical stabilizer was added on the rear of the
fuselage to improve the stability of the unit. A third modification was the
addition of the machinery on the dorsal side of the unit to allow the vehicle to
carry a Hargun.
The final modification was to the of the
pilot's compartment. Unlike the Flagga, the pilot in the HDV sits and is
partially surrounded by the platform. Once the pilot wishes to deploy the
Hargun, the pilot slows the HDV down to under 30 kph and rotates the Hargun from
horizontal to vertical. At this point the bottom of the HDV pilot's compartment
opens up and the pilot can slide down into the Hargun. The Hargun can then be
released from heights up to 20 meters. The entire process takes a maximum of 15
seconds. After the Hargun is released the HDV flies to a predetermined location
and awaits the return of the pilot.
A total of 765 units were created from
2022 until production ceased in 2029 at the onset of the 2nd Robotech War.
Ironically, unlike the Flagga or the Hargun, few units were destroyed in
combat. HDV were rarely placed into combat unless they had their Hargun
battloids underneath and pilots were hesitant to enter into combat unless they
were pre-deployed. As a result nearly 300 units survived the war and found
themselves, often without their Hargun, in the arsenals of resistance groups
during the Invid occupation.

STANDARD EQUIPMENT FOR THE FLAGGA:
-
COMBAT
COMPUTER: The combat computer tracks and identifies specific enemy
targets, and has a database of over 1,000 images stored in memory. The
computer can identify and track up to 20 targets simultaneously. Computer
displays flight and targeting data on the hovercraft's HUD.
- INFRA-RED WARNING RECEIVER OLDELFT (IRWR):
Providing rear aspect protection from IR guided missiles
- LASER TARGETING SYSTEM: Range: 100 miles
(160 km). Used for increased accuracy in the striking of enemy targets and
is partly responsible for the mecha's strike bonus.
- LOUDSPEAKER: A loudspeaker system is built
into the craft, which can be used to amplify the pilot's voice up to 90
decibels.
- OPTICS (INFRARED): Range: 2000 feet (610
m). This optical system projects a beam of infrared light that is invisible
to the normal eye, but detectable by the mecha's sensors. The system allows
the pilot to detect hidden/concealed objects by their IR reflectiveness. The
beam will be visible to anyone with IR sensitive optics, however.
- OPTICS (NIGHTVISION): Range: 2000 feet (610
m). A passive light image intensifier that emits no light of its own, but
relies on ambient light which is electronically amplified to produce a
visible picture.
- OPTICS (THERMAL IMAGER): Range: 2000 feet
(610 m). A passive optical heat sensor that detects infrared radiation
projected by warm objects and converts that data into a false-color visible
image. The system enables the pilot to see in the dark, in shadows, and
through smoke, and also adds a +10% bonus to pilots using a tracking skill.
- RADAR ERICCSON CYCLOPES: X-band pulse
Doppler radar. Detection range against 0 dBsm target 40 km. System
consists of a three conformal array on the body and arms.
- RADIO/VIDEO COMMUNICATION: Long range,
directional communications system with satellite relay capabilities. Range:
600 miles (960 km) or can be boosted indefinitely via satellite relay.
